A leaf from a Book of Hours, in Latin, c. 1450 A miniature of the Crucifixion, a shield held by a Roman soldier dressed in armor. foot of the Cross, the Virgin and St. John on the left, soldiers on the right, hills beyond, all in an arched compartment above illuminated initials of four lines of text within full borders. Verso: there are fourteen lines, written in dark brown ink in a gothic liturgical hand, rubrics are in red. Versal initials in gold and tempera on red and blue grounds with white tracery as well as panel border with designs of burnished gold ivy leaves and colored flowers on black hairline sprays. Size: 6 1/8 x 4 3/8 inches.
