M6059 Leaf by the Spanish Forger of a couple playing cards, apparently with a tarot deck, judging by the suits of cups and swords (our hearts and spades) The image has been catalogued by William Voelkle at the Morgan Library as Leaf L260. The Spanish Forger did many secular scenes, playing chess and music and other pastimes. L137 shows a card game (regular deck) in which cheating occurs; L225 depicts a couple playing cards (regular deck) with a woman standing behind the table as in this miniature. The drapery of the lady seated at the right is almost identical to the one in the present miniature. France, c. 1900. Size: 7 x 5 ½ inches.
