M6121 SS Andrew and Bartholomew, 2 Miniatures from a Book of Hours, Paris, c. 1470
16 lines of text in a single in a batarde hand, rubrics in red, each side with a full border of swirling blue and gold acanthus leaves, sprays of pink, red, and blue flowers, and numerous burnished gold bezants on hairline stems, and both borders inhabited by a grotesque with a long neck, a human face, and a jester’s hat. Five-line initial “C” featuring St. Andrew and the verso initial “B” with St. Bartholomew holding the knife employed in his martyrdom.
