M6979 Job Disputing with his friends,, Miniature from a Book of Hours, Workshop of Jean Pichore, Paris, c. 1500
A magnificent miniature executed by Jean Pichore or one of his followers within a full border of flowers and fronds on a ground of liquid gold and inhabited by a drollery. The text (almost the entirety of Psalm 115) is written in a Gothic script in brown ink with ruling in red. Job is seated and discussing with his friends. Characteristic of Pichore and the artists working in his style are figures clothed in voluminous drapery. The miniature is in excellent condition with the exception of slight rubbing on the faces of Job’s friends. Size: 6 ½ x 4 ½ inches.
